Australia Day 2016 - A time to reflect, and to ask some vital questions

Australia Day..time to reflect.

Let's all celebrate what a great country we are today. But it does not hurt to quietly and respectfully talk about some key issues facing us a nation:

1. Australia Day

The real Australia Day should be the 1st of each year to mark the formation of the Federation of Australia on this day in 1901. Our fist-ever federal parliament openned on 9th May 1901, so maybe this date could be our offical 'Australia Day' because we are all too hung-over on the 1st day of the New Year to celebrate the real Australia Day. Seriously, it could be an option.

But the 26th January will always be a terrible day for our indigenous people so really is the current Australia Day a day that will unify us?

2. Head-of-State:

Seriously, isn't it about time we had our own Head-of- State?
We are a secure, advanced and smart nation. We CAN go-it-alone. Let's be brave.

3. Our flag:

What is our obession with the Southern Cross - that can be seen by a number of other countries - and is about 14 million light years away. We DO need a new flag that is truly Australian.

I personally love our Aboriginal flag.

These are just three points that, as we celebrate, we might like to think about.
